Biologically the hand is composed of multiple vessels, nerves and cartilage, of 29 bones, 40 muscles and numerous joints. This is both one of the most complex and one of the most vital organs of the human body. The two main functions of the hand are gripping and touching. These characteristics make it an ideal tool; it is in fact the best tool of man!
The hand is in constant demand and thereby exposed to many dangers. Sometimes, for various reasons, the hand is injured, making daily life difficult.
The primary objective of ergotherapists specialising in therapy of the hand is to maximise the return of the function of the hand so as to permit the person to resume his/her daily activities of work and leisure while considering the complexity of the biomechanics of this organ.
